The final of the Power Stout Inter-Market Football Competition has been decided, and Bourda Market will tangle with Plaisance Market for top honours as the Georgetown/East Coast rivalry continues in the football fraternity.
The two top teams are set to clash on Monday at the Georgetown Football Club Ground at 8pm while in the preceding game Kitty Market will oppose Stewartville Market which will decide the third place winners.
First place winners will walk away with $150,000 while the runner-up, third and fourth place finishers will receive $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
Bourda will enter the final as favourites with the likes of former Youth National Manasseh Primo and Alpha United’s Sylvester and Calvin Shepherd in their lineup while Plaisance boasts a strong squad which includes Senior National Warren Gilkes, John Heyliger and a number of other established players.
Kitty Market will be spearheaded by Omali Nassay, Quincy Madramootoo, Wendell St Hill, Gordon Henry and Terrance ‘Old Head’ Lewis while Stewartville will have in their lineup Owen McGarrel and Leary Loncke.
In the semi-final round, Plaisance upset the star-studded Kitty Market team one-nil with Warren Gilkes scoring in the 26th minute.
Kitty tried desperately to equalize but selfishness and frustration crept in with every ‘star’ wanting to score but Plaisance defended terrifically and counter-attacked on many occasions and missed the opportunity to further go ahead by not being able to finish effectively.
This game was a replayed game that was abandoned at half time with the score at nil-all. At half time when the referees entered the dressing room it was discovered that someone had broken the locks and stolen wallets, cash, cell phones, cameras and other valuable items.
The first semi had Bourda Market overcoming Stewartville Market 2–1 in an exciting and competitive game. At half time the score was tied at one with Manasseh Primo scoring for Bourda and Owen Mc Garrel equalizing for Stewartville. The second half saw Calvin Shepherd scoring the winning goal.
