The Banks DIH Thirst Park ground was the venue where the Santos Football Club dethroned defending champions Fruta Conquerors in this year’s Courts Pee Wee Under-11 competition which was organized by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA).
Santos, under the illuminated battlefield claimed a come-from-behind win in extra time to become the second team to wear the Courts Pee Wee crown after Fruta Conquerors bowed out 1-2on Saturday night.
Preceding the final showdown was the Renaissance/Uprising third place battle which saw Uprising emerging victorious 3 – 2 on penalty kicks after the two sides were deadlocked 1 – 1 at the end of regulation and extra time.
The Santos/Fruta encounter saw FC captain’s, Ryan Hackett, drawing first blood for his team in the 19th minute with a long powerful shot that caught the opposition’s custodian off guard and rushed past him into the back of the net.
Fruta Conquerors were sensing victory with time running out in the final half but the Santos’ skipper and the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Job Caesar equalized one minute before regulation time (39th) which drove the game into extra time where they snatched the championship away from Conquerors.
Caesar jointly shared the Highest Goal Scorer award with Hackett as the tournament concluded with both players tied on nine goals.
In the second minute of the first half of extra time Alwin Williams found and opening and let off a terrific shot that beat the custodian to the back of the net for the lead. Santos then held off the defending champions to claim the championship win.
Earlier, the third place playoff saw Renaissance’s Jermain Beckles scoring in the 19th minute for his team.
Uprising, however, equalizing through a Kester Grant strike in the 35th minute. Neither team scored in the 10 minutes of extra time which drove the game into a penalty shoot out.
Grant along with team mates Akosi Jarvis and Shamar Henry were the scorers for Uprising while only Beckles and Kevin Butters could score for Renaissance.
