Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson remanded to prison a 40-year-old man accused of stripping several pieces of hardware from a building and stealing them.
Leon Brown of Lot 613 East Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny of items affixed to a building when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
He denied that between August 6 and 23, he stole 10 pieces of ply board, a kitchen sink, two glass doors, 405 louvre plates, 45 zinc sheets and several other building items valued over $564,000, that were at the time affixed to a building owned by Orin Williams.
Prosecutor Kevin London told the court that some of the items had been recovered during the investigation. He then objected to Brown’s bail application when he suggested it, on the grounds that this was not the first offence he had committed and that he had been incarcerated prior to this incident.
Brown admitted that he had previously been charged with break and enter. He then said, “all ah dem does wan wuk yuh out and don’t wan pay ya but I does gah eat and I does gah geh pay, suh I gah do me thing.”
The magistrate ordered Brown to appear in Court Five on September 18.
