Another man was taken into custody yesterday as police continued the investigation into the stabbing to death of US-based Guyanese Motilall Singh at Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara on Monday.
The man, the husband of one of Singh’s stepdaughters and who was being sought by police, had returned home shortly after 3 pm yesterday. He went upstairs and was playing with his children but a neighbour spotted him and informed the police, a relative said. The police went to the Second Street, Windsor Forest home and took him into custody where he remained up to yesterday afternoon. The police had been seeking the man for questioning in relation to the murder.
Singh’s stepson as well as two stepdaughters had been in police custody since Tuesday and remained there up to yesterday afternoon. The relative said yesterday that she knew of no property dispute which according to reports, led to the man’s murder.
At 2 am Monday, the bloodied body of Singh was found close to a tiny bridge at Second Street, Windsor Forest. He had been stabbed multiple times.
Police said in a statement that the man had been heading to his Second Street, Windsor Forest home when three men confronted and stabbed him several times. Investigators visited the scene and found Singh lying on the road with all his money, jewellery and other personal property intact. He died before receiving medical attention.
Singh was due to return to New York on Friday. He had returned to Guyana over two weeks ago to attend his brother’s funeral. A post-mortem examination is to be done shortly. His wife, Jaitoon Singh, has so far been unsuccessful in getting a flight to Guyana, the relative reported.
