Director of Business Planning at the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Eustace Abrams collapsed and died on the seawall yesterday morning while engaged in his usual exercise routine.
Abram, 54-year-old resident of Beterverwagting was suspected to have suffered a heart attack.
The company’s Deputy General Manager of Public Communication Terry Holder told Stabroek News when contacted yesterday that according to the information he received, Adams left his home around 5.30 am as usual for an early morning walk.
Having completing that, he began doing some exercises and that was when he collapsed, Holder said, adding that three women who were nearby rushed to his aid.
By the time help arrived, there was no pulse and it was realized that Abrams had already died.
Holder said that Abrams joined the GT&T family in 1972 and prior to his present position he held the post of Director of Customer Service.
Holder expressed surprise at the sudden passing and recalled how well Abrams looked on Tuesday when he last saw him.
Stabroek News was told that Abrams was well respected by all employees as well as those in the directorate. Abrams was described as a committed worker.
He attended the University of Guyana where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics in 1980 and completed a Masters in Business Administration at the Poona University in India in 1987.
Abrams was also the company’s representative at Intersat meetings held in Washington, USA where those in the telecommunications industry held discussions.
He also leaves to mourn his wife and two children.
