Students and teachers of the Bel Air Nursery School were yesterday given a spanking new school, built to the tune of US$230,000 through the collaborative efforts of the New Horizons Guyana team and the Ministry of Education.
The school was commissioned yesterday by Minister within the Ministry of Education Dr Desrey Fox and it ended the cycle of the school having to be housed at the Bel Air Primary, which had been the norm for the past few years.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) release, in her remarks Fox noted that nursery school is the beginning of nurturing a child towards good citizenry and it is important that special emphasis be paid on the kind of education delivered a the nursery level.
The release said that the New Horizons Guyana programme is aimed at strengthening US ties with partner nations in Central and South America through combined quality of life improvement projects. It said that over the last three months some 650 military personnel from the US including volunteer soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen, came to Guyana to engage in a $9 million project which included the renovation of a school building at Timehri, the construction of a health centre at La Penitence and the new Bel Air School.
