A 20-year-old Brazilian man, who allegedly conspired with others to forge a Brazilian passport, was yesterday remanded to prison shortly after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Yure Da Cruz of Prashad Nagar pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit a felony when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.
He denied that between August 3, 2007 and September 9 this year, with intent to defraud, he conspired with others to forge a Brazilian passport in favour of himself by inserting a false Republic of Guyana visa in it and an extension of stay permit.
Da Cruz was later remanded to prison and ordered to make another court appearance on September 15.
The prosecution stated that the passport was not signed by an immigration officer but by someone else and that person had forged the extension of stay permit.
He said that Da Cruz may have ordered this to be done since his permit for an extension of stay here had expired since August 2007.
