Touted as one of the prime favourites to win the inaugural Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports nationwide inter-block basketball tournament, Central Mackenzie crushed Watooka/Richmond Hill 91-52 when the tournament continued at the Mackenzie hard court on Wednesday.
Laced with Linden and to an extent some of Guyana’s best players, the Central Mackenzie men led by national point guard Marvin Hartman didn’t take any prisoners and chose to run over the feeble line-up of their opponents.
At half time, Central held 37-21 points advantage as they were still feeling out the team but as soon as the players began to groove in with each other, they easily pulled away.
Louis James led all scorers with 18 points while Neil Marks had 15 and junior national player Orin Rose and Devon Gittens netted 11 and ten points respectively.
Darwin Lovell with 16 points was the only player from his side to reach double figures for his team who will not have to seek redemption when they face Amelia’s Ward Front Scheme tonight.
But it would not be an easy task since Kevin ‘Two-feet’ Joseph and his men are already one game down in the competition after their lost to rivals Amelia’s Ward Back Scheme on the opening night.
The second game of the double header will see Dwayne Roberts and the Silvertown/Scheme crew taking on Block 22/Wisroc who already have one loss to their name.
