-DCC throws down gauntlet to Floodlights XI
They have made their names in the traditional form of the game but tonight fans will be able to see whether they can transform their success at hardball cricket to the softer version.
The venue is the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown and the activity is a 25-overs-a-side softball encounter between the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and the Floodlights XI cricket teams.
If anything the Floodlights XI team is expected to start as favourites. The players from that team are more active in softball cricket and players like Ricky Deonarine, Mike Singh, Barran Persaud, Mark Harold and Kamal Seebarran are as familiar to followers of softball cricket as the names of Roger and Mark Harper, Alfred Mentore, Christopher Barnwell, Garvin Nedd and Andre Legall to followers of the hard-ball game.
And while Roger Harper has played cricket at the highest level, representing the West Indies in a career spanning 25 tests and Mark, Nedd and Barnwell have represented the Guyana senior team, the Floodlights XI team will be keen to make the point that softball cricket is a different kettle of fish altogether.
Of course, the Harper brothers and company would want to make the point that cricket is cricket whether it is a test match, 50 overs, twenty20 or softball and as such a keen and interesting encounter is anticipated.
The game starts at 6.30pm.
