Scotia Bank as a corporate entity showed support to the Guyana Tape Ball League when they handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the organizers of the inaugural ‘The Companies’ 10/10 cricket tournament which will be played this weekend at the GNS and NIS grounds.
Marketing Manager of Scotia Bank Jennifer Cipriani-Nelson handed over the cheque to President of the Guyana Tape Ball League Shane Austin and the money will contribute to the tournament being pulled off successfully.
The bank also reaffirmed its mandate to lend a hand to sports in Guyana.
Scotia Bank Accounts Officer Ravi De La Cruz said it was important for business places to build relationships within the sporting arena, while developing games like tape ball and increasing its popularity in the public eye.
“At Scotia Bank we would like to break the ice and show a more fun side of our organisation and it also contributes to the development of the youths,” said De La Cruz.
So far a total of 15 teams have been confirmed for the weekend tourney and it is hoped that five more teams will be able to take part.
Two female teams have also signed up for the event, and the organizers are urging more women to hop on board between today and Saturday.
The league organizers also stated that interested teams from any part of the country are welcome to sign up.
Additional sponsors for the September 12th and 13th tournament are Banks DIH, Giftland Office Max and The Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life Group of Insurance Companies (GTM).
