The Bourda Market team was crowned the new champion of the Stabroek Warriors Sports (SWS) organized fourth Inter Market Football Competition after crushing their opponents in the final on Thursday night at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground.
Bourda demolished Plaisance by a four-goal margin as they finished 5 – 1 at the regulation time whistle while Kitty Market emerged as the third place victors by defeating Stewartville Market 2 – 1 in the opening match of the double header.
The champions are now $150,000 dollars richer while the second place finishers have to settle for $100,000 as third and fourth place finishers claim $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
Entering the final as the favourites, Bourda, led by a Manessah Primo double which surely got him the awarded of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) forced Plaisance on the back foot by scoring three firm goals in the opening minutes of the first half.
Andrew Gibson drew first blood as early as the third minute while Primo, who has been in terrific form throughout the competition, doubled the lead when he scored in the 13th minute and then completed his double seven minutes later when he found the back of the net.
The final half resumed with Plaisance down by three goals and yet to score, but, the dominators continued down the same lane and added two more goals to their tally to develop an unassailable lead.
