Telecommunications giant Guyana Telephone & Telegraph (GT&T) Company on Friday donated $750,000 to the Georgetown Cricket Asso-ciation (GCA) with an undertaking of continued sponsorship to the association.
GT&T’s Marketing Officer Phaedra Cramer-Phillips said yesterday, at a presentation ceremony at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Players’ Pavilion that the company will continue to support cricket and more particularly youth endeavours.
She noted that GT&T has long been a partner of sport, culture and youth development and will therefore continue to sponsor the GCA first division tournament.
In addition, she pointed out that sponsorship was important, especially if it is for the development of prospective world famous athletes.
She also took time out to wish the teams Guyana National Industrial Corp-oration (GNIC) and the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) that are contesting the final of the GCA Cellink Plus Cup.
GCA President Alfred Mentore expressed his association’s gratitude to GT&T especially since the company has been one of its premier sponsors for the past two years.
He promised that the GCA will continue to promote the talents of the game and thanked GT&T for its continued support of the GCA’s cause.
He reminded the sponsor’s representative Cramer-Phillips that the two teams have travelled a long road to reach the final and they will produce an enthralling finale after about three months of competition.
The team emerging victorious today, weather permitting, will receive $100,000, the runner up will pocket $50,000 and the Man-of-the-match will take home $10,000.
Mentore said that part of the remaining sum will pay match officials and other miscellaneous costs that arose during the tournament.
