The Alliance For Change has expressed appreciation for a number of donations, especially from non-resident AFC members, which go to assist the party in reaching out in its welfare programme to victims of domestic abuse and various other acts of violence, as well as fire victims.
According to a recent news release, AFC’s Region Four RDC councillor and AFC MP, Sarah Punalall who led the party’s welfare programme received from Jerry Jaikarran, president of the US-based GODLY charity group, a donation of US$200 which was used to assist in the continuing education of three children, ages 5,6 and 11, who were recently orphaned following the murder/suicide tragedy of their parents in Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.
On August 12 AFC member Boyo Ramsaroop accompanied Pastor Punalall who counselled relatives of the deceased and leant that the children’s mother had been violently abused by her spouse over a 15-year period prior to him murdering her then committing suicide. Several police reports had been made over the period.
And on September 5 the AFC presented fire victims of the Two Friends, East Coast Demerara community with two mattresses, bed sheets, book bags, notebooks and other items since the extended family had lost everything in the fire that gutted their home on August 5.
And following visits to the displaced fire victims, the party made presentations to the two young mothers and their several children who had lost everything in the fire. Eighteen persons were left homeless after the blaze. Dr Rohan Somar, president of the NY/NJ/AFC chapter donated US$200 which greatly helped in rendering this assistance, the release added.
