The National Gallery has received generous sponsorship from the Guyana Bank for Trade & Industry (GBTI) to fund its sixth biennial National Watercolour Competition.
A news release from Castellani House said that over $450,000 will fund the production of gold, silver and bronze medals as well as monetary awards for first, second and third prize winners of the competition, and the best entrant between the ages of 16 and 18 years.
Advertising and administrative costs will also be met from the sponsorship sum.
The National Gallery’s biennial competitions, in drawing and watercolour, were launched some 13 years ago to promote the appreciation, knowledge and development of the technical and expressive skills of art practice among artists as well as the general public.
Meanwhile, artists are invited to contact the National Gallery on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, for further information and to collect competition entry forms and regulations.
The closing date for receipt of entries is October 24, 2009, with the competition’s prize giving and exhibition opening scheduled for early November, the release concluded.
