Rain curtailed play on yesterday’s final day of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Cellink Plus three-day first division final at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground Bourda. As a result, Everest Cricket Club (ECC), going into the final day with a 98-run first innings lead, and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) were declared joint champions after the match was called off due to a soaked outfield. The presentation ceremony will be held on Friday afternoon at 17:00 in the main pavilion of the GCC ground. The final, which also saw the first day completely being washed out, was shifted in ECC’s favour especially since they bowled out GNIC in less than two sessions for 137 from 36.5 overs. In reply they eased past that total in to reach 235-4 with Rajendra Chandrika making a sumptuous 150 not out.
That innings consisted of 16 boundaries and two sixes in 226 minutes while his partner Troy Gonsalves was left undefeated on 29 as the two shared a 99-run partnership at the end of the second day. Their other top performer in the game was Leon Scott who bagged five wickets for 63 runs on Saturday morning.
In GNIC’s innings only five batsmen reached double figures. Richard Chaturia top scored with 23 and also picked up two wickets when GNIC bowled.
