Some 20 East Coast Demerara mandirs are hosting three nights of satsangh on the tarmac at Lusignan in honour of their ancestors and in memory of the victims of the Lusignan massacre.
The programme began last night and will conclude tomorrow night.
In a press release the groups said the events will be held under the theme ‘Promoting National Peace and Harmony’. Pandit Haresh Tewari of the Lusignan Mandir delivered the feature address yesterday evening, the release said.
The release also said Pitri Paksh is a sacred 14-day period in the Hindu calendar during which time Hindus “honour their ancestors and the contributions they have made to the upliftment of their descendants, as well as to that of the wider society.” Observations for Pitri Paksh started on September 5 and continue until Friday.
