– Silver City/Valley and Silver Town/Scheme advance to semis

Action in the Linden zone of the Ministry of Sport Inter-ward Basketball Tournament will certainly heat up from this evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court with another double header.

Tonight’s opening game pits Amelia’s Ward Front Scheme coming up against the powerful Central Mackenzie side while Amelia’s Ward Back are down to face Watooka/ Richmond Hill.

A win would be the only thing Amelia’s Ward Front Scheme players would be thinking of since that’s the only way they can advance to the semis after having lost one game already.

But the team which is being led by point guard Kevin ‘Two-Feet’ Joseph will certainly have to find a new gear if they are to stand any chance against the potent Central Mackenzie team.

Strapped with a strong offensive line-up headed by senior national players Marvin Hartman, Jason Alonzo, and Neil Marks as well as former junior national player Louis James and the sharp shooting junior national Orin Rose, the Central team are seen as ‘the’ team to beat in the tournament.

However, it would not be a walk in the park since Amelia’s Ward Front have a more balanced team and a deeper bench.

Joseph will have the assistance of Rodwell Pellew and Ryan Hilliman in the back court while Gavin Fingal, Kurleigh Austin and Shawn Ettiene will take control of the back court.

Pellew can be just as effective with the ball as Joseph and Austin is probably one of

Linden’s best finishers on plays inside.

In the second game of the night, Amelia’s Ward can say that they have a straight passage to the semi-finals when they clash with frail Constab/Watooka/Richmond Hill side that have so far lost all of their matches.

Junior national captain Akeem Kanhai and Neil Simon will lead their side that also features former junior national Javon Nelson, Delbert Cesar and Oscar Adams, who can all  put up big numbers on any given night.

Meanwhile in matches played on Monday evening, Silver City/Victory Valley trampled Wisroc/Block 22 93-48.

Chris Williams continues his impressive form in the game with a game high 22 points; Marlon Pollydore had 16 while Steven Couchman and Alwyn Rodney both shot 12.

For the losers, Gavin and Patrick Clarke were the only players in double figures, scoring 17 and ten points respectively.
With the win, Silver City/Victory Valley have  advanced to the semi-finals, joined by Silver Town/Scheme who gained a walkover win after their opponents One Mile/Half Mile were a no show.
