The four persons held in relation to the murder of Land of Canaan fireman Patrick Daly remained in police custody while two suspects were still on the run up to yesterday afternoon. Charges are likely to be filed shortly.
Meantime, a post-mortem examination done yesterday found that Daly, 30, died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple chop wounds, his reputed wife, Denise George said. She related that she was told that there were severe injuries at his back – his spinal cord was cut – and to the back of his head. The acid thrown on him by his attackers damaged his stomach area, she said. Two of the men who attacked the man at his home on Tuesday were still on the run up to yesterday afternoon.
Police had said on that day, that Daly was in an outhouse in his yard when three male suspects with whom he had a recent misunderstanding, confronted and threw a corrosive substance on him then inflicted several chops about his body and fled the scene. He died before receiving medical attention.
Residents had told this newspaper that the fatal attack had followed threats and a prior attack. Daly was brutally chopped to death by the three men and the residents said the attack would not have occurred had police heeded several reports made by the deceased man.
Following the attack, the assailants fled but one was later apprehended by police along with three other persons, who allegedly aided and abetted them.
George had told this newspaper that the attack was sparked by complaints about the noise that the suspects made.
The deceased man had made several reports to the police prior to his death but no action was taken by them, upset residents had said.
