Trio likely for charges in fireman’s murder

-two suspects on the run

Three persons are likely to be charged today in relation to Tuesday’s murder of Land of Canaan fireman Patrick Daly but the two main suspects remain on the run.

The trio is likely to appear at the Providence Magistrates’ Court today. However, the two main suspects have not yet been apprehended by police and it is not clear whether charges would be filed against them in their absence.

Daly had been chopped to death by three men early Tuesday morning. Police had said that the man was in an outhouse in his yard when three male suspects with whom he had a recent misunderstanding, confronted and threw a corrosive substance on him then inflicted several chops about his body and fled the scene. He died before receiving medical attention. A post-mortem examination found that Daly, 30, died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple chop wounds, his reputed wife, Denise George had told this newspaper.

She had related that she was told that there were severe injuries at his back – his spinal cord was cut – and to the back of his head. The acid thrown on him by his attackers damaged his stomach area, she said. Residents had told this newspaper that the fatal attack had followed threats and a prior attack. They had said the attack would not have occurred had police heeded several reports made by the deceased man.

Following the attack, the assailants fled but one was later apprehended by police along with three other persons, who allegedly aided and abetted them. One was released. George had told this newspaper that the attack was sparked by complaints about the noise that the suspects made.

The deceased man had made several reports to the police prior to his death but no action was taken by them, upset residents had said.
