Uprising, Winners Connection and the Fruta Conquerors Futsal teams were the first set to enter the quarterfinal round of the Mackeson English/Kashif and Shanghai Futsal Tournament after defeating their opponents in their second round matches at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Wednesday night.
On an action packed night of futsal Uprising stunned Riddim Squad 4 – 2, Winners Connection got past Beacon United 6 – 4 and Conquerors defeated the Brazilians 5 – 4.
In the exhibition tournament, Albouystown defeated Medias United 3 – 2 and Tiger Bay trounced Upper Level Barber Shop 2 – 1.
The Uprising/Riddim Squad showdown was a match that could have gone either way, with both teams at each other’s neck to score and go ahead.
Omali Nassay led the way for Uprising with a hat-trick even with Riddim Squad holding on until the late moments of the final half.
Nassay scored in the 14th minute while Mark Giles scored in the 17th minute for the opposition which concluded the first half with the teams tied. When the second half resumed Riddim Squad went ahead in the 24th minute through a Seon Hope strike but then Nassay equalized the very next minute to send the match into over time.
Neither team scored in the first half of extra time but Orielly Small and Nassay scored in the first and second minutes of the second half of extra time to take their team to victory.
Fruta Conquerors dominated the first half of their match against the Brazilians as they led 4 – 2 at half time compliments of Lesters Peters (7th), Sheldon Shepherd (8th), Gerald Gittens (5th) and Paul Bobb (10th).
Diego DeSantos and Elias Marcuves scored for the opposition in the ninth and tenth minutes, respectively.
Michael Favour and DeSantos were successful in the 17th and 28th minutes for Brazil but by then opposition’s goals tally was already five since Peters found the back of the net in the 22nd minute.
Winners Connection’s goals scored in the 13th minute by Standord Bouville, third and 22nd by Renson Summer, and 26th and 27th by Marcus Fraser and Shawn Gittens, respectively, along with an own goal from the opposition overshadowed Beacon United’s effort.
Doubles from Nigel Denny (5th, 19th) and Dino Williams (21st and 23rd) proved futile at the end of the encounter.
