POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa, CMC – West Indies suffered a slight injury scare yesterday when promising fast bowler Kemar Roach fell and hurt his ankle while fielding during the Champions Trophy warm-up match against South Africa yesterday.
The 21-year-old pacer, one of the spearheads of the Windies attack on tour, is expected be assessed following training today.
Roach had sent down just four overs which had cost 29 runs before picking up the knock, and did not bat when West Indies were dismissed for 200 off 41.1 overs, chasing South Africa’s 388 for four off their allotted 50 overs.
The right-armer, who made his Test debut against Bangladesh in July when the elite players sat out the series over a contracts dispute, has taken 13 wickets in his two Tests.
He has taken a similar number of wickets in five One-Day Internationals and along with Tino Best, is expected to provide the Windies’ main pace options during the Champions Trophy which bowls off next Tuesday.
