Castellani House has launched its Sixth Biennial National Watercolour Competition, which is being sponsored by the Guyana Bank for Trade & Industry Ltd (GBTI).
According to a press release from the National Art Gallery, GBTI has donated over
$450,000, which will fund the production of gold, silver and bronze medals as well as monetary awards for first, second and third prize winners of the competition, and the best entrant between the ages of 16 and 18 years. Advertising and administrative costs will also be met from the sponsorship sum.
The National Gallery’s biennial competitions, in drawing and watercolour, were launched some 13 years ago with the aim of promoting the appreciation, knowledge and development of the technical and expressive skills of art practice among artists as well as the general public.
Competition entry forms and regulations can be obtained from the National Gallery, Vlissengen Road, Georgetown and from branches of GBTI throughout Guyana. The closing date for receipt of entries is October 24, with the competition’s prize giving and exhibition opening scheduled for early November.
