The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) says that interventions have been made to bring relief to residents being affected by water disruptions in Plaisance, Vryheid’s Lust and other neighbouring East Coast communities.
The utility company was responding to an article published by this newspaper on Tuesday last, which stated that residents of Plaisance and Vryheid’s Lust had complained about an inadequate water supply.
According to a release from the water utility, the interventions are part of its comprehensive programme which was implemented to bring relief to all customers who are without water supply. The company stated that its customers at Plaisance, Sparendaam and Ogle are currently experiencing water disruptions, which resulted from the prevalence of power supply challenges affecting operations at its production site at Sparendaam.
In this regard, the company has partnered with the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) in the interest of regularizing power supply not only to its Sparendaam pump station, but also to a number of affected locations along the Coast. GWI stated that its Vryheid’s Lust customers are served by the company’s plant at Better Hope but a significant surge in demand has seen a decrease in the level of service. The company is currently recommissioning a well within the Vryheid’s Lust area which, the release noted, will provide customers with an improved service when commissioned.
The company urged all customers to contact its divisional offices or the company’s Customer Call Center on telephone number 227-08701 for information concerning affected areas.
As regards a section of Tuesday’s article in which this newspaper made mention of failed effort to obtain a comment from the company’s Public Relations (PR) department, GWI stated in the release that its PR department was not contacted for a comment. Stabroek News had contacted the PR department last Monday afternoon for several hours up until 5pm to obtain a comment on the Vryheid’s Lust /Plaisance issue, however the company representatives had said on each occasion when contacted, that the relevant personnel was out in the fields.
