(Trinidad Express) – One man is in police custody assisting investigators into the murder of husband and wife Bevan and Judith Toby of Runnemede, Tobago, who were burnt to death at their home shortly before noon on Sunday. Both were Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Police reports indicated that Bevan Toby was with church members carrying out house-to-house witnessing, when he was telephoned by his wife to come home.
That was the last time fellow church members of the Parlatuvier Kingdom Hall saw him.
Toby’s charred remains were found in the bedroom while her husband was found in the living room of their home.
Their family car was still parked outside their home, which had been ransacked. The home was valued at $250,000. A Tobago man was detained at the scene of the incident and is assisting police in their investigations.
District Medical Officer of Health Dr Mentor Melville ordered the couple’s bodies to be taken to the Scarborough Mortuary.
Meanwhile, the second teenager found at French Fort, Tobago, has been identified as 15-year-old Rondell Thomas of Signal Hill.
The bodies of 16-year-old Kolen Salandy and Thomas were found at French Fort on Saturday. His mother, Ann Thomas, was outraged over the murder of her son, and is calling for the death penalty to resume in the country.
Rondell Thomas was a footballer with the St Clair Coaching School in Tobago and a Third Form pupil at the Signal Hill Secondary Comprehensive School.
“My son and him were friends, they get killed together. All I would like though is that they bring this to justice.” Several people are assisting police in the murder of the teenagers.
