A man who was allegedly held with illegal drugs at Number Five Village, West Berbice was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Julian Proctor, 28, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of 140 grammes of cannabis sativa for the purpose of trafficking. Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop ordered him to return to court on October 27 for report.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Grace Bristol submitted that bail should be refused on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the charge.
She also argued that if Proctor is granted his pre-trial freedom there is the likelihood that he would flee the jurisdiction and would not attend trial.
Reports are that police in West Berbice acted on information and swooped down on the house around 4.10 am on Tuesday and found the drug in the house. The man was arrested and charged a few hours later.
