A 21-year-old Mahdia resident died on Tuesday after he fell into a mining pit at the Kuribrong Backdam in Mahdia.
Police said that Rocky Melville was standing on a sluice box which broke causing him to fall into the pit. He sustained injuries and died before he could have been rescued.
His body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
