Narsingh Deonarine struck an unbeaten century as Berbice closed with a lead of 266 runs over the Rest Team at the close of the second day’s play of the Guyana Cricket Board senior four day Inter County tournament at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown yesterday.
The former West Indies batsman was not out on 101 as Berbice reached 290-3 in 62 overs in their second innings.
Homchand Pooran is unbeaten on 47.
Earlier the Rest Team replying to the Berbice first innings score of 205 all out reached 229 for a lead of 24.
They were indebted to Sauid Drepaul’s battling inning of 54 which included nine fours and Alex Amsterdam’s 25 (three fours) as the Rest Team lost their last four wickets for 81 runs.
Permaul bagged three of those wickets to end with 4 – 36 while Devendra Bishoo bagged 3 – 64.
Deonarine and Esaun Crandon claimed one wicket each for 26 and 32 runs respectively.
But the day belonged to Deonarine who batted for 171 minutes striking eight fours and one six.
He and Pooran put on a 136-run partnership with Pooran striking two boundaries in his watchful innings.
Delbert Hicks (66) and Assad Fudadin (57) also recorded half centuries at the top of the Berbice innings while West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon was dismissed for three with the score on seven.
Hicks’ fire-cracker innings included six fours and five sixes while Fudadin was also in a no-nonsense mood striking six fours and two sixes.
Stephen Latcha, Sauid Drepaul and Dion Ferrier grabbed one wicket each but those proved costly going for 49, 86 and 21 runs respectively.
