The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in its efforts to promote table tennis countrywide will host the Ken DeAbreu Table Tennis League from October 3rd through to November 22 at the Malteenoes Sports Club.
In a news release, tournament coordinator Linden Johnson said that the special league will involve schools, clubs, communities, business entities, corporations and government agencies as part of the association’s objective to involve all in the sport. The GTTA has clearly stated that they will coordinate tournament fixtures, provide umpires, tables and balls among other resources to ensure the tournament runs smoothly.
It is hoped that such a league will foster camraderie among seasoned players, develop partnerships with the business community and serve as a basis to increase the number of players in the GTTA organisation.
Prior to the league’s commencement the GTTA had invited all interested persons, including representatives from schools and business entities, to meet at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on September 30 at 17:00hrs to discuss queries and important tournament rules.
This tournament will be run on a round robin basis, with the top four teams in each division contesting the semi-finals. Matches will be played on the weekends starting on Friday through to Sunday from 16:00 hours. A coaching programme will be conducted prior to the tournament’s commencement.
Divisions to be contested are:
1. “A” DIVISION (Senior and Advance Players)
2. “B” DIVISION (Advance players)
3. “C” DIVISION (Intermediate Players)
4. “D”DIVISION (Business Entities, Corporation and Government Agencies)
5. “E” DIVISION (Semi Intermediate Players)

* Most Improved Players – Male and Female
* The Best Dressed Team
* Most Disciplined Team
The release said also that the GTTA sincerely feels that this tournament can be successful in achieving its objectives and they would like to meet with representatives of schools, clubs, communities, business entities, corporations and government agencies on September 30 at 17:00 hours at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The association would answer any queries in relation to the tournament and outline the tournament format rules and regulations as well as discuss ways of enhancing the tournament output, the release added.
