The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission have organised their first Day of Interaction on Sunday starting at 9:30hrs at Better Hope Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara.
According to a release the two organisations hope an activity like this will encourage healthy lifestyles among the Guyanese people while promoting HIV/AIDS awareness.
Approximately 500 participants from communities between Mahaica and Plaisance are expected to participate in various sports disciplines such as softball cricket, football, dominoes, volleyball, table tennis, circle tennis, martial arts, track and field, draughts and chess. An opening ceremony and march past by athletes and officials at 09:30hrs will commence the day’s proceedings.
Expected to be in attendance are senior officials of the government, political parties and regional administrators.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission are encouraging the communities to come out and participate in a day of fun and unity.
Registration begins at 08:45 hrs and concludes at 09:15hrs. All communities are encouraged to register early.
There will also be a bike ride to liven up the Day of Interaction and Minister Dr. Frank Anthony is expected to be among the riders in the early morning ride.
