– relatives say police not pursuing suspect
Relatives of Anjanie Mohan, the 44-year old woman whose husband severely chopped her about her body during a misunderstanding, are furious over what they have termed “sloppy work” by the police in their bid to have the perpetrator arrested.
One relative who requested anonymity told this newspaper that since Mohan was attacked, the husband has not yet been taken into custody to assist with investigations.
This, the relative said, is because the lawmen are “dragging their feet” on the issue.
“They don’t seem to think that this is a serious issue because if it was, they would have been treating the matter with greater urgency, Anjanie coulda lose she life,” a relative said.
Recounting the incident, the injured woman of 131 Plastic City, West Coast Demerara (WCD) told this newspaper that it came about after her decision to leave her husband.
The woman explained that some time last month she and her husband were experiencing some domestic problems and she decided to take him to court and he was placed on a bond to keep the peace for one year after she decided not to pursue the matter against him.
Since then however, the injured Mohan said, her husband’s attitude had not improved and as a result she decided to tell him yesterday that they should go their separate ways. According to Mohan, the man became enraged, grabbed a cutlass and began chopping her mercilessly.
She suffered severe chops to her head, both hands, and other parts of her body.
