Trinidad and Tobago’s cricket team recorded a comfortable victory against the Guyana Daredevils in the first of two Twenty20 warm-up matches at the Providence National Stadium on Friday night.
The Trinidadians were spearheaded by sterling performances from Ravi Rampaul and Daren Ganga whose 30-ball 47 was the highlight of the T&T innings of 150 – 6.
The effort proved too much for the home side who only managed to reach 122 before being dismissed.
The twin-island team got off to a good start before the wicket of William Perkins (19) fell to Sauid Drepaul while Lendl Simmons carried on with his skipper, Ganga, before being dismissed for 41.
Darren Bravo with 19 was the only other batsman to reach double figure as Dwayne Bravo (2), Keiron Pollard (8) and Dinesh Ramdin (3) all fell cheaply.
Narsingh Deonarine was the best of the Guyanese bowlers on the night as he finished with 3 – 24 while Sewnarine Chattergoon, Esaun Crandon and Drepaul grabbed one wicket each for seven, 26 and 36 runs, respectively.
In pursuit of the target Guyana found themselves in trouble early on and were 19 – 3 after four overs at one point.
Chattergoon (14) and Assad Fuddadin (19) got good starts but were not able to carry on
while Andrew Lyght Jr. was removed without scoring and Christopher Barnwell was trapped leg before wicket for just seven.
Former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan looked solid but miscued a shot off Pollard and was caught by Simmons for 22.
Deonarine’s 22-ball 35 gave Guyana some hope of reaching the target but he had no support at the bottom of the innings and the team eventually crumbled to 122.
Rampaul finished with 3 – 22, Pollard and Sherwyn Ganga grabbed two wickets each for 16 and 22 runs, while Dave Mohammed, DW Bravo and Samuel Badree claimed one wicket each for 21, 16 and 23 runs.
