As the conclusion of the round robin stage draws near the level of the competition between the teams in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Chubby Under-13 competition has improved as they clubs battle to secure a spot in the knockout stage which commences next week.
Five teams recorded victories at the Tucville Playfield on the penultimate day of the round robin matches to move one step closer to the next round.
Thomas and Alpha United teams along with Flamingo Football Club defeated opponents Pele, Renaissance and Santos by 2 – 0 margins while Fruta Conquerors got past Riddim Squad 1 – 0 and Sunburst Camptown played to a 1 – 1 draw with Uprising.
In the Thomas United/Pele battle neither team was able to score in the first half but United found two openings in the second half from which Carl Griffith (40th) and Kevin Andrews (57th) scored to lead their team to victory.
A first half 20th minute goal from Kevin Bartholomew and a second half 40th minute goal from Keron Solomon accounted for the two Alpha United goals against Renaissance.
And, Flamingo’s 45th minute goal scored by Marlon Nedd and a defence error in the 31st minute, helped Flamingo run out easy winners over put Santos while Riddim Squad was needled 1 – 0 by a Romelo Fraser of Fruta Conquerors goal in the 55th minute which proved the deciding goal of the match.
Group `A’ leaders Sunburst Camptown and Uprising, who are on 10 points each played to a draw with Azumah Small scoring in the 14th minute for Camptown and Akosy Jervis equalizing in the 40th for the opposition.
Camptown and Uprising are unbeaten from three wins and one draw while Thomas United and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) are third and fourth in Group `A’ with nine and six points respectively.
Flamingo is in the lead in Group `B’ with nine points with Fruta Conquerors – second, Santos –third and Alpha United – fourth on eight, seven and six points respectively.
