The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) in collaboration with the wider Muslim Community from across the country held its second Eid Fest on Saturday at the West Demerara Secondary School, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
An IAC release said that the celebration was a success as it brought the Muslim Community together and provided the opportunity for reflection after the holy month of Ramadaan (fasting). The cultural programme included a wide cross-section of young Islamic students, special guests and international recording Qasseeda Singer Jameer Hoosein from Trinidad and Tobago, the release further stated.
In attendance at the event were Ministers Robert Persaud, Irfaan Ali, Manzoor Nadir and Region Three’s Chairman Julius Faerber who addressed the gathering. Children were treated to free rides and games and a wide variety of foods and Islamic artefacts were on sale.
The first Eid Fest was held at the Lusignan Tarmac, East Coast Demerara as a reflection after Ramadaan and also in commemoration of those who were slain in the massacre in January 2008, the IAC release noted.
Eid-Ul-Fitr is the climax of the month of Ramadaan and is the biggest festival observed by Muslims.
