Magistrate Chandra Sohan remanded a 38-year-old labourer to prison when he appeared before him at the Albion Court recently, charged with attempting to murder his former reputed wife at Yakusari, Black Bush Polder.
Sunil Samaroo of Johanna North, Black Bush Polder reportedly attempted to murder Salima Ally on September 19. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
The matter has been transferred to the Whim Court and would be called again on October 5.
Police Prosecutor Inspector William Henry objected to bail on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the offence.
The prosecutor submitted that the defendant has other matters involving Ally pending in the court.
He said if granted bail he would interfere with witnesses. He said too that Samaroo is expected to be charged with other offences.
Reports are that Ally was badly chopped during a robbery at her brother’s home when five masked bandits entered and terrorize and rob family members.
Samaroo, who is likely to be charged with two counts of armed robbery, reportedly inflicted three slashes to her neck, a chop to her head, shoulder and a finger on her right hand causing the bone to be exposed and another finger to be broken.
Samaroo was wanted by the police in connection with the incident and turned himself in to the Whim Station in the company of his lawyer.
