A 50-year-old security guard attached to the RK’s security firm who allegedly had a quantity of cannabis in his possession was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on October 2 at Georgetown, Mark Leitch of 6 Norton Street, Werk-en-Rust trafficked in narcotics by selling one gram of cannabis.
On the same day also, he allegedly had in his possession 43 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to two counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when they were read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
The attorney who represented the defendant made an application that his client be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he has no previous convictions, has a fixed place of abode, poses no risk of flight and has been cooperating with the police in their investigations.
Despite the lawyer’s request for bail, the defendant was remanded to prison and ordered to return to Court Five on October 20.
