Canada offering online programmes to Caricom nationals

The Canadian High Commis-sion says Caricom nationals can now earn Canadian credentials through the Canada-Caricom Virtual University Scholarship Programme (CCVUSP).

In a press release the High Commission said the venture is a new Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) initiative. It will allow students to take selected Canadian certificate courses by distance and earn qualifications from Canadian institutions.

The Canadian Bureau for International Education will deliver the programmes on behalf of DFAIT, in cooperation with the Canadian Virtual University. It aims at providing access to post-secondary education for new groups of individuals for whom full-time university studies or travel abroad may be unrealistic.

Applications and course registrations are being accepted from August 18 to February 28, 2010. The following programmes are currently available: university certificate in counselling women; certificate in health, safety and environmental processes, information technology, computing and information systems and a diploma in technology and entrepreneurship. Detailed information is available at scholarships.gc.ca and www.cvu-uvc.ca which links to the universities offering the programmes under the CCVUSP.
