Nicholas Ali wiped out opponent Stephan Greaves yesterday in the semi-final of the Queen’s College Annual Lower and Upper School Boys and Girls Singles Tournament.
Ali was the better player of the day after defeating Greaves at QC’s badminton courts 21-4, 21-11 in the semi-final of the Upper School Boys category. In the second semi-final Easa Sanichara fell prey to Avian Rodrigues who trains with Yonex Badminton Club like counterpart Ali.
Rodrigues in the first game finished Sanichara 21-4 but attempted to fight back in the second encounter only to come up short against the national player. Rodrigues settled the score to advance to the final registering 21-11.
There was also an interestingly close match between Sajeedah Khan and Tera Jaipaul. Both parties were very competitive but Khan was agile on the court and placed better shots to win the 21-16, 22-20 match.
In the Lower School Boys category Christopher Shewjattan and Dennis Nelson both advanced to the final of the tournament after defeating Troxley Cuttings and Alexander Paul respectively.
The final of the Upper School Boys, Lower School Boys and Lower School Girls category will be played tomorrow. There will also be a third place playoff for the Lower School Boys and Girls Singles category.
However it was announced that the Upper School Girls category will not have a place in the tournament due to the lack of participants. The tournament will come to a close tomorrow at the same venue.
