The Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) will stage its annual Top 10 tournament this Sunday at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pavilion.
The tournament is one of the more eagerly anticipated tournaments on the scrabble calendar, second only to the National Scrabble championships and will involve the country’s top 10 players according to a recent ranking list released by the association.
Current number one Fred Collins will be looking to stave off stiff competition from national champion Abigail McDonald and Moen Gafoor who are hot on his heels for the top spot while James Krackowsky, who made a huge leap after winning five games in the last competition, is 15 points away from breaking the 1800 barrier.
The rating system used by GASP is the ARPAD ELO rating system and a players’ rating is decided by the number of games a player should win as based on his rankings compared to his actual wins in a tournament.
There will also be a second tier tournament simultaneously for the remaining players outside the top 10.
Players are asked to be present by 9:45 am.
Trophies will be up for grabs and persons desirous of watching the country’s best scrabble players compete against each other are free to watch.
