Thomas United, Flamingo, Santos and Sunburst Camptown all moved one step closer to the final of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Chubby Under-13 competition after winning quarter-final matches yesterday at the Tucville Playfield.
Sunburst Camptown got past Alpha United 4-1; Santos defeated Georgetown Football Club 2-1; Thomas United beat Fruta Conquerors 1-0 and Flamingo edged Uprising 3 – 2.
The four victorious teams will clash this Wednesday at the same venue to decide the finalists with the losing semi-final teams contesting the third-place play-off.
Camptown recorded a comprehensive come-from-behind victory by dominating the second half of their game after Alpha United’s Keron Solomon had scored a fifth minute goal to put the opposition under early pressure.
However, Camptown though unable to score in the first half, managed to equalize in the second minute of the second half through Azumah Small before going ahead the very next minute when Jason Williams scored.
Christopher Clarke and Lazon Lord found the back of the net in the 45th and 54th minutes for Camptown who then coasted until the final whistle blew.
Santos pushed in two first-half goals against GFC who managed a second half consolation strike.
Orin Yarde and Jerome Liddel scored in the 18th and 23rd minutes for Santos while Ray Stanton scored for GFC in the 38th minute.
Thomas needled Fruta Conquerors on their home soil to make it through to the next round. The encounter could have gone either way but Thomas’ determination to defend the only goal scored by Michael Boon (60th) earned them a spot in the next round.
Flamingo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after being down by two goals in the second half and just 20 minutes remaining in the match against Uprising.
Stephen Walton (29th) and Nyron Joseph (40th) had earlier put Uprising within a whisker of advancing but in the final 10 minutes of the battle, Flamingo made it a one goal game, equalized and then scored the winning goal to record an emphatic win.
Alpha McPhoy, Orlando Rickett and Colin Waterman were the goals corers in the 50th, 55th and 58th minutes.
