Sunil Singh, the 8-year-old who was struck down by a canter on the Mahaicony Public Road last Wednesday, is showing some signs of improvement but is still attached to a life support machine.
The Mahaicony Primary School student was on his way home for lunch that day when he was hit by GHH 9532. He was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a critical condition.
Ramrattie Tiwari told Stabroek News that her son was moving “slightly” when she visited him yesterday afternoon. Although he has shown a sign for the better, she said, he is still in a serious condition.
According to reports, Singh was standing on the road shoulder close to a pedestrian crossing along with two other classmates waiting to cross over to the other side of the road, close to his home, when he was struck down by the vehicle.
He landed several feet away from the point of impact after he was hit by the vehicle.
His friends escaped unhurt by running into a nearby yard after noticing the canter truck heading in their direction. Singh was picked up by his mother in an unconscious state and was rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital; he was subsequently transferred to the GPH as his condition was serious.
