Prime Minister Samuel Hinds advised citizens to use the occasion of Diwali to reflect on their lifestyles and to strive to live humbly.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the prime minister made this statement at the Diamond Community Centre where patrons had assembled to view the motorcade procession on Sunday evening.
In his address, the prime minister said the significance of Diwali is manifold and that each individual should observe this period to reflect on his or her life and make the necessary adjustments to become better persons. Hinds reminded the audience that Diwali is the Festival of Lights and that light always overcomes darkness. He then advised them to practice healthy living.
Additionally, Hinds said Diamond is a rapidly growing area and can now count the establishment of a hospital, a new state-of-the-art secondary school and a huge housing scheme. He added that banks and a gas station would soon be added to the East Bank area.
GINA said the motorcade was sponsored by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha.
