Investigations into the discovery of the Island Princess in Grenadian waters continued yesterday and while the investigators are focusing on finding how it ended up there, nothing incriminating has so far been found by the members of the forensic department, a source on the island said yesterday.
The security source told this newspaper from the island that the investigations are continuing. He said that the police there are currently trying to make contact with the owner of the vessel and its counterparts in Guyana.
Up to press time last evening, this newspaper could not ascertain if these attempts were successful.
According to the source, based on the preliminary investigations it cannot be established if traces of drugs were found aboard but he assured this newspaper that the forensic department is conducting extensive investigations on the vessel.
He stated that at this point the main concern of the police is to determine how the vessel ended up where it was found but if anything disturbing is there, the investigations will be broadened.
The vessel is now in the custody of the Grenada Coast Guard and is presently moored at their base.
The boat was believed to have had four crew members: Mahendra Singh called Sunil, Ryan Chin, Rickford Bannister and Titus Buckery Nascimento.
So far three bullet-riddled and gutted bodies have washed up in the Essequibo River and based on items recovered on them, they have been identified as Singh, Chin and Nascimento.
