A 78-year-old man succumbed to head injuries hours after he was struck down by a speeding motor car at Fourth Avenue, Bartica on Wednesday afternoon.
Dead is Alfred Cameron who at the time of the accident was attempting to cross the road. The driver of the car, HB 5209 is in police custody and is to appear in court today.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, Cameron was crossing the road around 11:30 am, when the taxi moving at `top speed’ hit him.
From accounts received, after the man saw the speeding taxi approaching he quickened his steps in an attempt to get out of the way but was still hit.
He was picked up and rushed to the Bartica Hospital but died around 19:30 hours that night while receiving treatment.
The driver under caution has admitted to speeding.
