The Ministry of Agriculture says its timely supplies to farmers in Region Nine have been beneficial and that it aided in mitigating the effects of the current El Nino phenomenon.
With the long, dry spell scorching mainly hinterland areas, particularly Region Nine, farmers benefited from supplies which included five 500-gallon water tanks and five water pumps, 2000 packets of acoushi ant bait, a swing fog machine and other chemicals to combat acoushi ants due.
An additional five smaller tanks to store processed cassava and five barrels of diesel were also dispatched.
A press statement from the Ministry said yesterday that government reached out to farmers as a result of the dry spell and had approved $49M to aid affected hinterland communities.
It said too that government will continue to work with farmers and other stakeholders to ensure that there are adequate food supplies in hinterland regions.
