Threatened to shoot wife – court hears

A 38-year-old minibus driver accused of telling the mother of his child that he would shoot and kill her was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The allegation is that on October 11 at Georgetown, Mark Anthony Pickett of 191 Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt made use of threatening language towards Tricia Skeete thus resulting in a breach of the peace.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of threatening language when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

Attorney-at-law Patrice Henry who represented the accused made an application that his client be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he has no previous convictions, has a fixed place of abode, poses no risk of flight and has been cooperating with the police in their investigations.

When given a chance to respond, the virtual complainant (VC) told the court that she is of the opinion that the entire issue stemmed from a misunderstanding she had with Pickett some ten months ago. According to the VC, Pickett had informed her that he had another child with another girl and as a result, she [Skeete], told him that they should both go their separate ways since he is “obviously involved with somebody else.”

She said that on the day in question, she secured her premises and went out when shortly after she received a call from her neighbour informing her that the defendant and another man had entered her yard and were breaking the padlock off her door.

Skeete went on to say that she returned home shortly after to enquire from the accused what was responsible for him destroying her lock when he told her, “ah gun bus yuh up with meh gun.”
He was subsequently remanded to prison and ordered to return to court on October 19.
