The Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) will host its annual Diwali Open tomorrow at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC).
The event is open to members of the association and the public who wish to challenge the front runners in scrabble.
Meanwhile, executive member of GASP, Moen Gafoor, said the association was still appealing to the public for much needed support for the raffle which will contribute to funds for Abigail McDonald to attend the World Scrabble Championships in Malaysia.
Gafoor explained, “We’ve had tremendous support from businesses and the public and we are well on our way to sending Abigail to the championships. It would be great to have support from the public for the raffle, so we are looking forward to that.” McDonald is currently ranked third in the GASP national rankings, just below Moen Gafoor in second and Fred Collins at the top of the charts. Gafoor said tickets are being sold at a fast rate which signals interest from the public since sales began a few weeks ago.
The Diwali Open commences at 10am but players are asked to be present at 9:40am.
