The battle lines have been drawn and hockey fans can expect nothing short of an enthralling showdown when Georgetown Cricket Club and Hikers face off in both the men’s first and second division finals of the Banks DIH Night hockey tournament this evening at Thirst Park.
The tension has been at fever pitch that even the final preliminary match up between the GCC and Hikers first division teams were called off awaiting the decider.
Hikers played unbeaten in the preliminary competition and hold a slight edge over their opponents following their 1-0 win in the first round.
The Hikers team will be spearheaded by Jerry Bell, Devin Munroe, Shane Samuels, Alex Gouveia, Timothy McIntosh and Richard Mattherson while GCC’s line up will include Dwayne Scott, Damon Woodroffe, Alan Fernandes, Philip Fernandes, Orlando Semple and Devin Hooper.
The umpires are former national players Alan Newark and Wayne St. Jules.
Play is scheduled to start at 20:00 hours.
Earlier, the men’s second division final will be contested and this match should also be intriguing with both teams having old scores to settle.
The Bourda side will be going all out to conqueror the youthful Hikers who are eager to cart off a major outdoor title.
GCC’s challenge will be spearheaded by Shad Fernandes, Shaka Gill, Leonard George, Trevon Smith and goalkeeper Michael Xavier while Hikers will have in their line up Shaquille Assanah, Travon Younge, Robert France, Randy Hope and Colonel Heywood.
The umpires are Gregory Sills and Dwayne Alleyne.
The presentation ceremony will follow the conclusion of the final match.
Meanwhile the GT&T Six -a-side Indoor competition will bully off on Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with several matches starting at 18:00 hours.
