Santos Football Club was crowned champions of the Chubby Under-13 football competition organized by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) after they defeated Sunburst Camptown 1-0 in the final at the Tucville Playfield yesterday.
In the supporting game Flamingo defeated Thomas United 2 – 0 to claim third place.
The feature game saw Santos dominating ball possession throughout the match while Camptown literally struggled to get any shots on target.
Santos, though, was getting the ball forward on a regular basis and was able to take the lead as early as the 11th minute when Travis Alexander took a shot from about 20 yards out on the right flank.
The ball went through the Camptown’s goalkeeper legs and had enough legs on it to run into the back of the goal.
Camptown was unfortunate not the find the equalizer but credit must also go to Santos who defended their lead to the bitter end for the win.
At the conclusion of the match, Santos’ Job Caesar and Omar Jones were named as the Most Valuable Player and Best Goal Keeper, respectively.
Camptown’s Azumah Small, with seven goals, claimed the Highest Goal Scorer award and the Camptown team was adjudged the Most Disciplined Team.
Flamingo and Thomas United played matching football in their encounter but neither team was able to score before regulation time which drove the match into extra time.
Extra time showed that Flamingo was the team who could endure the extra mile as they stuffed in two goals in the 65th and 68th minutes through Sheldon Fletcher and Orlando Ricketts.
