Before the lights go out tonight at the Guyana National Stadium, Pro-vidence, the country’s first division champions will be crowned in the final of the Neal and Massy nationwide limited overs tournament.
The Berbice teams Albion and Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) en route to the finals outplayed Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by 48 runs and North Essequibo by 54 runs respectively in the semi-finals.
Albion will be led by former youth cricketer Orvin Mangru while RHTWSB will be led by national middle order batsman Assad Fudadin.
The match, which begins at 2pm, will conclude under lights and should see fans being treated to a competitive game of cricket since some of Guyana’s most exciting and talented cricketers will be on show.
RHTWSB also has in its line up the Crandon brothers Esaun and Royston, national selectee wicketkeeper Delbert Hicks, Michael Lewis and other equally destructive players that change the complexion of the game to favour their team. The younger Crandon Royston, who recently returned from South Africa, is also coming of a good performance in the first simulation match organized by the technical team of the Guyana squad that is currently preparing for the WICB President’s Cup tournament. Fudadin will be looking to continue leading from the front especially since he has been in solid form recently. On the other hand, Albion has a stronger batting team on paper which is seriously bolstered with the presence of Test and ODI batsmen Narsingh Deonarine and Sewnarine Chattergoon who have also been in destructive form of late. Chattergoon is entering today’s game with a century in the final of the recently concluded El Dorado Inter-County 50-over tournament and Deonarine a 44-ball unbeaten 74 in the same match for Berbice. There is also the presence of former under-19 middle order batsman Jonathan Foo who can intimidate bowlers if he gets going with his power hitting. In the bowling department they have the experience of Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul who will play major parts on the flat stadium wicket.
Moreover, if the pitch is anything like what was prepared for the Inter-County final they will find that they will have to work harder to get wickets on a pitch tailor-made for batting.
Spectators, will have a chance to win attractive prizes at the gate and during the intermission.
RHTWSB team reads: Assad Fudadin (Captain), Royston Crandon, Esaun Crandon, Delbert Hicks, Michael Cummings, Terrence Madramootoo, Ravi Narine, Michael Rengasammy, Eon Hooper, Renwick Batson, Jason St. Clair, Khemraj Mahadeo, Shawn Perriera and Lloyden Lewis.
