Roraima Bikers Club will stage the 12th Annual Troy Humphrey’s Memorial Cycling Extravaganza on Saturday at the National Park circuit.
The day’s programme will feature 10 races including the feature 25-lap event for categories one to four riders.
There will be races for cyclists in the BMX, seniors, juniors and juveniles, veterans and upright categories with the first race scheduled to start at 09:00 hours, President of Roraima Bikers Club Brian Allen disclosed.
Marlon “Fishy” Williams was the winner of last year’s feature event when the programme was held at the Amelia’s Ward Circuit in Linden, but it is unclear whether he will be defending his title Saturday.
The first race, a one-lap event will be for boys six to nine years old and will be followed by a one-lap race for girls.
There will also be BMX Open and upright races over five laps, veterans under and over 50 years also over five laps while the juniors and Juveniles will ride for 20 laps before the feature event.
Over $135,000 in cash prizes as well as trophies will be up for grabs in the one-day extravaganza.
According to Allen most of the country’s leading riders are expected to compete including a large contingent from Berbice.
The programme is being held in honour of former National cyclist Troy Humphrey who died tragically in a vehicle accident and has been remembered by the Roraima Bikers Club which was founded by his father George Humphrey, an ardent cycle fan and administrator.
